this may sound like a dumb question, but i got my first vette on sunday. its 95 model, and only has a cassette player in it. i know they made them with a cd changer, and i was curious to where it should be located. if mine does not have one, i was also curious if it should be pre-wired for one. if not im going to go with an aftermarket unit, are all of the vettes made with the bose amplified setup? any help would be appreciated.
Go aftermarket. Get yourself a nice CD player or go all out and get a DVD player with a motorized screen. I had one of the DVD jobbies and they are so AWSOME! Of course if you watch it while driving you risk getting a ticket but hey, technology does have some disadvantages.
I had one installed in the rear storage compartment behind the passenger seat. Its fairly easy to remove from the driver seat when seating still. My six CD Pioneer fits perfect.

I did the same thing, also Pioneer. I got the RF CD-6 changer, and you buy an antenna adapter(got mine at Fry's) and it hooks right into to the radio unit which sits in this exact area behind passenger seat. So to play the CD, you tune your FM channel to a pre-determined frequency(you have a choice of about 6 or so) so your CD player is modulated through an FM channel.. I used the auxilary power wire which is located under the gear shift panel to power the CD changer(look in owners manual, it tells you about this aux. 12V/GND pair)....ran all wires under carpet....Sweet setup. and since I did the labor, it only cost about $250 for the changer....

I wanted easy access as well as it being concealed...so I fitted my Pioneer 6 stacker in to the centre glove compartment.
To cut up the inner walls of the centre black base was a gamble...I didn't know if the thing would fit and then may be end up with a massive hole in there...!
The gamble paid off, though it is very tight.
The trans. tunnel trim will not fit without modifcation...so I put it in place, and heated it with a hot air gun, all the while putting pressure on the plastic and eventually much of it took the shape of the cd player.
I don't have a digi camera so cannot show pics, but it is real neat and out of sight...it is a snap to access the cartridge...just by lifting the glove box cover.
These cd players are great in that you can retain the original music set up from factory and inter connect this with it...works great thru my Bose amped original speakers.

.
Wow! I never even considered the center console as I felt there was no way I could fit it in that tight space! That's awesome.
Since my '95 was not a "heavily" optioned one, I mounted the CD controller in the area that would have been used for power window switches. The arrow in pic is where I had to drill a hole to get the controller and power wires from the rear console. This controller is the only thing you can see that let's you know there is a CD player in the car.....
