Ignition switch cost/replacement
My ignition switch is going bad,it keeps tripping the vats .I was wondering what the cost of a new switch is and what is involved in putting the new one in.

I can't remember the price, but it's not much. Easy to replace. Remove driver's side hush panel. Remove the tilt lever and place the transmission in neutral. Insert key in ignition. Undo the two 13 mm bolts holding the steering column and just prior to lowering the column turn the key to the "Run" position. This will allow the column to clear the lower trim panel. Slowly lower the column. After the column has cleared the trim, turn the key off. The switch is on top and as I remember, there are two electrical connectors and two 7 mm bolts holding it to the column. Undo the mechanical linkage to the key and remove the switch. When putting in the new switch, make sure it is in the off position. Use the old switch as a guide. Reverse procedures to reinstall. Good Luck.

If the problem you are having is with VATS, you don't need to replace the Ignition Switch, you need to replace the Cylinder. The Cylinder has the contacts for the VATS.
