Default No Power........Help!!!!!!

Well here is the latest problem with the 85........After cleaning up the throttle body and replacing the TPS, my car ran great for a couple of weeks. Now all of a sudden when I give it gas all I get is a noise that sounds like the throttle is wide open. The RPMs will not go over 2900 and the engine sort of sputters. I have already replaced the fuel filter and checked the air filter which is new anyway.

Anyone ever have this happen to them - or have any ideas what is causing this? I suspect I may have a plugged exhaust system ie bad muffler. But am not sure how to check that out. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advace.........

I would bet on a plugged cat.

get under the car, and give the cat a gentle wack with a rubber mallet... if I am right, you will hear stuff floating around inside.

Almost sounds as if you are in limp home mode! Check for some codes to see what's going on. This will be the best way to trouble shot your problem. Post the codes so we can help. But again it sounds like LIMP HOME MODE!

Thanks,Matt

sounds like cats, and yes they can glow. I'd also check for vac leaks.

Thanks for the responses - have checked codes twice before posting this and since then - no codes are shown. Have checked the vacuum lines - and cant seem to find any leaks or hear any obvious ones. As far as the cat goes - I dont hear anything rattling around but I need to take of the outer screen- I will get back to you on that - Thanks again for the help

ps This may be a dumb question, but what is "limp home mode"?

Also, take a drive with a fuel pressure gauge connected. If the pressure drops more than 10 psi, you have an avenue of trouble shooting to pursue.
