My car's temp goes to redline when i'm sitting in traffic?? There is plenty of coolant in there. I'm going to be getting a fan put in tomorrow but why is this happenen? Do you think that it is the water pump? Opinions needed please!
you need to get under the front end and check the air intake. that area will clog up with leaves and the like.
while you have the car apart for the fan, you might want to remove the radiator and pass a radiator comb across the fins to make sure they are all open and clear.
Could be waterpump, could be fan, could be temp sensor. When the car is cold remove the radiator cap and start the engine. When it reaches operating temp you'll be able to see water moving. That'll tell you the pump is ok. There is a danger here!!! If you remove the cap while the engine is hot, You will be scalded!!!! Use extreme caution making this check.Sometime the thermostat goes bad and won't open to let coolent circulate. Next you can cross the A&B terminals on your aldl to see if the fan comes on. If so move on to the relay and sensor. I believe in most cases it is the relay or sensor.
Good Luck
Um, I think I'm setting myself up here, much like one would when asking about a left-handed pipe wrench.
Here goes. You mean there's such a thing as a radiator comb? Never heard of it, though from looking at my battered radiator I could see a use for something like that, if it exists.
