I was going for a drive about 2 hours ago when the car just started to bog and won't upshift into overdrive so I pull over and check the trans. fluid it's fine so I get back in and put it in drive and the car won't move but the tires will spin so I checked all the gears and the same thing car won't move but the tires will spin. So, I called the wife to come get me. I returned about a hour later with my father and now the car will move, so we try to get it home. Well, half way home it starts up again so I pull over and check the brakes and the front passenager side rotor is glowing red hot what could cause this? no lights are on in the car. I drove in the rain today and I noticed that the brakes become really touchy. Whats up please help me
Do NOT drive this car until it is fixed. You risk your and others lives by driving the car in its current condition. Your problem is serious and should not be overlooked to think you can simply drive it to the repair shop or home. You should have it towed. Because you were asking for help, I wanted to let you know the seriousness of the situation.
New parts and a full flush of the system is now in order! Let us know what happens and how you fix it so we will all benefit! Hope all goes well, sorry to here it happened!
Your rotor is almost surely cooked and the caliper is likely toast too.
But there's one more component to replace and it probably caused the trouble - the flexible brake line connected to the caliper.
When I first experienced a failed brake hose it sounded like malarky so I replaced only the caliper, rotor and pads. It was the hose.
A common failure mode for the hose is that it will allow pressure to pass but won't release pressure. Test the hose by applying the brakes with the wheel off the ground (safely blocked and supported) then release the brake and try to spin the wheel. If the wheel won't turn, open the brake fluid bleed valve on the caliper and try to turn the wheel. If the wheel now turns freely, it's the hose. If the wheel remains tight, it's the caliper - and perhaps the hose too.
Since that earlier experience (>10 years ago) I've had 3 GM cars with failed brake hoses, fortunately not the Corvette. Hope this helps.
Good luck.

As others have said replace the rotor as well. www.rockauto.com has the 13" (J55) rotors for $35 plus shipping. IIRC the 12" rotors were a little less (I have J55).
If it was my car I'd pick up a set of braided steel lines, two front calipers, new pads, new rotors and replace it all, give the system a good flush and test drive it.

Still have same problem after replacing the caliper and bleeding the brakes. Drove it about 1/4 mile same thing happened it locked up. Loosened the bleed value to try and release the pressure but then I counldn't repump the brakes. So, decide since I was close to home to just use the e-brake to get it home, but the breaks repumped and locked up. So, I disconnected the ABS and the brakes stopped locking up and I was able to get home. Where do I start the master cyclinder or the ABS or the senor on the wheel.
