Tricks To Remove The Inspection Plate

I'm working on cleaning the under side of my engine so I can determine the cause of an oil leak (previous thread).

Does anyone have any tips on removing the inspection plate?

I want to do a thorough job.

You'll have to pull the tranny to remove the bell housing. But, there should be an inspection pan that is fairly easy to remove.

Sorry for my terminology. Inspection plate is what I want to remove.

Should just be 4 bolts holding it on.

You'll have to remove your starter too if it's like mine. It doesn't slide over the starter but instead the nose of the starter goes through a hole in the cover. You will have to finaggle the cover past the transmission cooler lines too. You can leave the wires on the starter if it'll leave you enough room to get it out of the way. But unhook the battery or be careful not to ground the hot cable.

I'm thinking I should remove the starter too. It could use a cleaning too.

Is the starter hard to remove? Any tips?

I'd look real close at the oilfilter/cooling adapter. It's real common for them to leak and the oil to run around the oil pan.

Thanks, I will look closer. However I do have some oil on the starter side. I don't think its the intake but I will know more when I get it cleaned up.
