I always thought that is the best solution. Exotic Muscle sells a package of parts to do the same.

Perfect timing, I am in the process of shopping for my new wheels and tires. I have an 86 that I want to put 17 x 11's with 315/35/17 in the rear. If I am following this correctly, if I use the 50mm offsett (stock 96 GS coupe wheel ) I shouldnt stick out to much if at all. The flairs dont look right on the 86 with my style body moldings.

Correct. Grandsport offset is the key. They still stick out very very slightly.

For an 86, you'll need to use a ZR1 offest - 38mm

I am a bit confused. On my 93 I narrowed the track by using 87 spindles(which are the same as the 86) to get. The 87 spindles bring the wheel in 13 mm. The grand sport wheel brings it in an additional 14mm. This makes the wheels very flush on my 93. SO, on the 86, cant you just use the Grand SPort wheel with 50mm offset to get it to be flush?

I thought the 84-87 off set was 38 front and 36 rear? so can I run zr1 17x11 wheels all the way around and not rub on my 86? how heavy are the zr1 wheels what other wheels will fit that are light?

Nope.

Actual ZR1 rear rims are 36.5mm rear, which will bolt to 84-87 with no adapter, either in the front or the rear. You can run 11" all around, but I have heard of rubbing at lock in front. The actual ZR1 rim is lighter than the aftermarket AFS.

I am no expert on the 84-87, as all I did was due the articles recommendation of useing the 87 spindle, as GM did with Big Doggie, there 454 1990 Vette they built as a prototype.
Anyone with pics of a 84-87 with the ZR-1's with the 36.5mm offset?
I am sure this has been beat up heavily, but since this thread is going strong, hopefully someone will chime in with pics.
