cleaning the MAF

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Hey, here's some info on cleaning the MAF (other vehicles, but the principle is the same:

Bottom line:
1. Use spray electrical cleaner or carb/TB cleaner. Preferably something easy on rubber or plastic.
2. Cover plastic and rubber parts, if possible or overspray can cause them to become brittle.
3. Spray the MAF sensor wires, then spray again, wait for it to dry, spray again. A good 3-4 blasts should do the trick.
4. DO NOT TOUCH THE WIRES!!! Just spray a distance away from them. (Don't use a brush!)
5. Allow to dry, then put back together.
Also, someone else suggested using DeoxIT/ProGold Twin Pack from Radio Shack for the male/female MAF electrical connectors. If they have corroded or oxidized, this may renew their conductivity. $14.99 for the twin pack.
I just cleaned my MAF on the '96. I have a K&N filter (oiled filter) with a Granatelli MAF. It was fairly clean, actually. A few very small black spots showed on the MAF wires, which sprayed right off. Put it back together and hit the road. I'm probably imagining it, but it seemed to help a little.
These Vettes are such a kick to drive anyway, it just puts a smile on one's face hitting the gas as one blows past a C-6.
...well he was going the opposite direction, albeit.
Only use electronics spray cleaners available at most auto parts stores. It does not have an oily residue and dries clean....oil is what K&N filters and black rain (down south) deposit on the wires.
