tell me about your ultra low budget rebuilds
i'm looking into a rebuild but have an ultra low budget and am entering college this fall
this will have to be a daily driver in hot weather with bad traffic , nothing too extreme. maybe 300 hp(if tpi will support) torque is a plus though
BTW i can do the assembly just need direction with parts. i plan to keep the stock intake at least for a while
but youre not getting 300 with the 86's heads and a stock TPI on it
your site is awesome
i was thinking a set of 113 heads and upgrade the tpi as i can afford. is this reasonable?
the block will most likely need serious machining so i am thinking 355, so i don't have to deal with clearancing and can maybe save the crank
Sounds fine, just pick a hyd. flat tappet cam with similar specs to Accel 211 or TPiS ZZ9 and put that in the new motor now along with the heads, because you'll need the right springs for the cam to go on them. Remember it will need a custom chip when you put in a different cam.
Then upgrade the rest of the intake as funds allow.

i've heard of changing the t/c when the cam is changed, is this just for extreme cams?
vortec heads are only 500 bucks for the set. The only catch is that you have to but the intake manifold to match it which is a little more expensive. Buy some stuff on ebay. That will save you alot. just be carefull on what you get.

I've seen 383 stroker kits with cast cranks and hyper pistons for around $600. This would be every bit as good as the stock stuff if not better and give you a hell of a kick in the torque department. It'd still be a good base for more mods later on too, as long as you're not talking real big HP numbers.
