I have noted that the oil pressure on my 89 coupe is about 54 psi cold, 24 psi hot. This seems low compared to my 86 coupe which is 70psi cold and 40 psi hot. What I would like to find out is if other 89 cars are in the same range or is this really low. If it is normal oil pressure for a 89, why the difference. Both cars have comparable mileage (low) and run well.

Re: Oil pressure- is this low or normal? (vette punk)
What viscosity are you running ?.. A few years ago my 88 L-98 started dropping pressure down to low 30s at ( while hot ) idle... it "was" normally running low 40s at idle... so... something changed... My solution was to mix the ratio of viscosities at oil change time... 3 qts 10-30 and 2 qts 15-50 mobil 1
It is really just peace of mind... at an idle you will never hurt your motor with 24 psi... and 40 psi is plenty while running... Just keep an eye on things as you always do... btw... did you switch to a different brand of oil filter ?

Bigvmaxx,
I am using 10w30 Quaker State oil and an AC Delco filter. Same as the other car.
Another thought on this, do both cars use the same oil pump (same pressure relief spring?)
