P1661 is a MIL control circuit code (SES sevice engine soon/check
engine light).
Does your SES light come on?

If the SES light is actually coming on I honestly don't know. Usally that code sets when there is an open in the SES circuit I haven't seen any GM vehicles set that code when the light works. If you clear the code, does it reset?

The only other thing I can think of is a faulty PCM, or the SES control
circuit is shorted to ground (circuit comes out of PCM connector 4 pin 9
brown wire with white tracer). You could try cutting the wire at close to the PCM if the light goes out the PCM is at fault ifthe light stays on it's shorted to ground (PCM controls ground side of circuit).
