The tooth count IS 153. That will automatically make the flywheel the correct diameter. Your externally balanced, one piece rear seal, 383, takes the same imbalance weight as a stock 400. You will have to either reuse your bolt-on weight, or go for an aftermarket, 153 tooth, 400 (383) unbalanced, flywheel. All stock 400s came with 168 tooth flywheels or flexplates. The bigger flexplates will fit the 700R4/4L60(+E) bell housing area, but the flywheel won't fit inside the C4 manual trans bell housing.

RACE ON!!!

[EDIT]: The above in red is a typo. It should say, "two piece rear seal". I apologize if that has caused anyone any problems.

since you said ''clutch'' and ''383'', you apparently have a manual transmission and a 400 chevy crank...400 cranks fit two-piece rear seal blocks...99% of all chevy flywheels are 153 or 168 tooth (some race set-ups do use other sizes, doubtful that you'll see one)...you can put the larger 14''-168 tooth flywheel in, but you must use the corresponding bellhousing/starter,clutch linkage, misc. and header/exhaust pipe clearance will be a pita...easier to get a neutral balanced 12-3/4''-153 tooth 350 flywheel and have it balanced for the 400(383) crank--there is a factory m/t lightweight (15 lb) wheel, 153t, with external weight for the 454 big block/two piece seal that will only need minor rebalancing to use on the 383 and it is tested to 10k rpm...you are limited to 10.5'' clutch with the 153t, if you need to break more parts with a bigger clutch, you need the 168t wheel.
