Default Changed Battery

I think this should be an easy one. I changed out the battery on my 92 yesterday and now it seems I need to re-set something. The change oil light stays on as well as no read out on a few of the funtions.

Can you help a brother out and let me know what I need to do?
Thanks, Vinnie

To reset the oil light

1 Turn the key to RUN,but dont start the engine.
2 Press ENG MET on the trip monitor. Then, with in five seconds
press it again.
3 Within five seconds, press and hold GAUGES on the trip monitor.
The CHANGE OIL light should flash.
4 Hold the GAUGES button untill the CHANGE OIL light stops flashing
and goes out. This should take about 10 seconds.

When the light goes out,the monitor is reset. If the monitor doesnt
reset, turn the ignition off then try again.

What about on a 1990 Vette? My change oil light came on the other day albeit I changed my oil already! My 1990 does not have a GAUGES button on the trip monitor area

Thanks,Matt

Your owners' manual will have the procedure for resetting the Change Engine Oil light. The 90 did not have the digital gauge display under the speedo so that is why there is no Gauges button.

The light will come on based on inputs from varous engine sensors and the ECM sends a signal thru the CCM to turn the light on when all of the parameters are met. The system does not "know" when the oil is changed.

Vinnie-

What other things are not working? Your oil change light may have come on just by coincidence when you were doing the battery.

Did you have the ignition key ON when you connected the new battery? Was there any noticible spark when you connected the battey cables?
