How do you replace the rear hatch weather stripping
I purchased from: the last detail, their aftermarket weather stripping kit. but i need instructions on how to remove the old weather stripping and how to install the new weather stripping, along with how do i detatch the rear hatch hydraulic struts, any opinions will be greatly appericated.
thanks again Boonie
Remove one hatch strut. Have a stick handy for a prop in case one strut wont hold the glass up. Pull the weather seal off that side and put the new one in place, and replace the strut. Go to the other side and do the same. Then start the center top of the seal and seat it against the body. work out in both directions till done.
To remove the struts, look closely at the end of the strut. There is a "C" shaped clip. Use a very small screwdriver to pry the "C" clip up off the end. It doesn't have to be removed, just lift is slightly off the strut end. The strut should come off the ball. Use a short piece of wood to hold the hatch up.
All good, but i'll add one or two more tips:
(1) make sure the new weatherstrip is warm and clean
(2) Install without and adhesive
(3) close hatch and let it set for a day or two, try to have it sun baked for a while after install to make it more soft
(4) Use a hair dryer on the new weatherstrip as you install, help mold within the tracks
(5) after a couple of days, you'll want to use some adhesive at the corners (by the doors) to help hold in place...works best with (2) persons to get it in the corners and close the hatch, then keep it closed for a couple of days.
