Default Transmission Help

The 700R4 on my 87 coupe is acting weird. I posted before about a vibration when the car is placed in low or reverse. The car runs and shifts smoothly in drive or overdrive. Now sometimes when the car is placed in reverse and the brake is applied, it feels like a manual transmission with the clutch being released while the brake is applied. It then kills. The car has 81K miles on it. Any ideas?

One of the problems sounds like the lo-reverse clutch pack is hurt.
vibrations normally point to the torque converter. Although any worn bushing in the trans could contribute to a vibration.

At this point, should I:
A. Have transmission rebuilt
B. Purchase an already built Transmission
C. Try to find an honest Transmission shop

c goes without saying. Whoever you deal with, make sure the are trustworth.
b is a great idea. However, most guys that will sell you a trans to replace the vette trans will simply cut the output shaft down, slap on your old speedo gears and tailhousing and send you down the road. The trans will not have the same "character" as your old one (that is in the car now). If you go this route, be sure they know how to build a VETTE trans.
a is also a good idea because the "character" remains the same. However, the car has the most down time going this route. Especially if it is still drivable now.

I heard a rumor that gm no longer has a reman trans for an 87. If true, it is a shame. They were decent quality and had a good warrantee. Expensive though.

I just sold the 86 model in the for sale section and I am working on one for 85 stalker as I type this. I do have a core, and could start it early next week if you need it. Shoot me a pm if you like

Definately have it checked locally. No sense changing it unless you are sure it is bad.
