Default wiring question (obd1 / pre obd1 question)

My car is a 93 auto. I really want to switch from speed density setup to the maf 94+ setup. I'm having a hard time finding a used auto Vette wiring harness. My question is could I make a 94-95 manual harness work with my auto? What's the difference between a 1994 Vette harness Vs F-body harness? I do know for a fact the computers for the 94 vette and f-body are different but it's really minor.

You can actually use a F body PCM to run the LT1. I would get an aftermarket harness, unless you are handy with splicing wires with a diagram. You can then leave the stock ECM in place, your transmission was not controlled by the ECM other than the TCC system. All shifting was done manually, it wasn't until 94 that the new 4L60E was used in the C4. Until that time it was a non-electronic transmission. Personally it really isn't worth all the trouble to do. What is your reason behind making the change. If its a tuning issue, any competent tuner should be able to burn you a chip for what ever engine combination you have.

The Fbody computer is different from looking at the research Ive done. The 94 vette computer has a instant fuel per gallon thingy were as the f-body computers dont. The only reason I wanted to do the conversion was because Everything from my 94 camaro is going into my 93 vette and I thought it would all be so simple. I changed my mind. Im going to stay with the speed density. The more I learn about doing the conversion the more scared I get.

You're really going to tell one of the leading LT1 tuners that he doesn't know what he's talking about in terms of interchangeability?

I have an F-body computer in my vette as do many other people.

If you're putting everything (engine, 4L60E, PCM) from the 94 camaro into the vette, then you are already running with the MAF, and "sticking to speed density" is what would actually take effort.

If you're only putting some of those componens from the camaro into the vette, then you're going to have to do some work to get things working in either mode (throttle body is different, wiring harness is different, etc.) so since you have to do work either way, might as well use the later system.

When did I tell him he didnt know what he was talking about? I never said it could not be interchanged, I just said they were different. They have different part numbers as well. I have a link explaining this in more detail on my work computer. It's not that big a deal but intresting you kinda took my post and made as though I'm a total tard trying to discredit a tuner.

Did not once say you could not use it, I know you can use it, I know many have used it, etc, etc.

When I said everything I ment the engine. My overall goal was to reuse the tranny and motor and just swap the cars so the Camaro could be sold. After researching the idea in the begining I realized you could simply swap a both engine and trans from a 94 camaro to a 93 vette without the Camaro suffering. So in actuallity not only would "sticking to speed density" take effort, trying to sell a 94 camaro with speed density would also.

I'm way past that. The engines have already been swapped. I was just debating on wether to convert the vette to the 94 setup but Ive already decided it's not worth the effort.

Just out of curiosity - what are you swapping for?

It sounds like you have two working cars and two working engines?

Heres the story. I had/have a 1994 A4 Convertible with a newlly built 383 with all the fixins and a Probuilt 4L60E. Both only had the break in miles. The Camaro had everything but I always wanted a C4. I looked into different year C4's before deciding on a 93. I wouldve preffered a 94-95 but choices are very limited. When I bought the 93 I had every intention of swapping everything until I realized nobody would buy a 94 Camaro with a 93 setup. Right now we have the Vette motor in the Camaro. We should be starting it up today. The Vette wont be up for another week or two as I gather misc stuff for for example, I learned my Moroso Camaro oil pan wont fit in the Vette so I'm waiting for the pan I bought from a member here to arrive etc. I'm sure i will run into other bumps but in the end I wouldve lost more if I didnt keep this engine. I dont want to start all over again. If that was the case I wouldve went C5

Gotcha. I think you'll end up regretting not swapping trannys. You're going to need a rebuild to handle the power, and the 4L60E is nicer to work with - easy to change shift points to suit a built engine.

Would you really lose much on the camaro with the 93 drivetrain? Heck, most places in the US you could advertise it as having a drivetrain transplanted from a vette, and charge _more_.

The camaro is almost done. We just have to finish the accessories, and place the stock tune back in there. Even if I did swap everything over I still wouldve hit some major bumps like the fan setup etc. Either way I going to have my hands full. I really wish I couldve just got a 94 vette but you know how it goes. My Vette is going to be down forever from the looks of it. It's crazy how the 93's are really so different from the 94+'s. There's even a thread I read here that one guy wanted to do a 94+ wiring conversion to his 93. He gave up because it was to crazy and not worth it in the end. If I didnt need to sell the camaro I'd be on easy street. I'd strip it and forget it but even still like I mentioned, not everything would swap over easilly if at all. I kinda wish I wouldve just stuck with the Camaro
