Default 540 swap

well I started my big block swap yesterday. I sold the motor in my 87 to a friend of mine that has a 84. He`s paying me to install it allso. I got a 540 ci BB with a TH400 to go behind it. This should be fun if not really hard to do.Wish me luck guys, and if any of you guys have done this before feal free to share in any bad news I might need before I run into it hehe.

It will be fun, and challenging.
Post some pics as you make progress.

The 540 is a sweetheart of an engine. They can make lots of power and you can beat them all day and they still come back for more. The T400 is an indestructible transmission. What rear end have you chosen?

get ready to cut that crossmember and be very selective on your accessory drive...rack must be moved minimum 1.5" to clear most any serpentine system (mine is around 2 1/4" forward)...

keep us all posted as stated...

oh, and get a solid axle...you'll need it

I`m gunna fab a trans x-member and tie the C-beam into that for now. Yea I know the stearing rack gotta move up and maybe even the x-member in front of the motor. I got the D44 rear end for now I will put a 9' after the first of the year (was told the D44 would hold up OK for now) all my HVAC stuff is long gone so I don`t have to worry bout that. only thing I`m really worried about is the driveshaft. Noone here in my town does crap for machine work or fabricating. So i might have to have one made somewere else and shipped here?
was thinking of using a motor plate and cutting out the stock motor moint pads all together, setting the motor back a few extra inches cut into the firewall a bit. I wanna have room for the 3" drive belt. Maybe a easier way dunno yet.
oh yea I can`t post pictures

I am interested in this conversion especially how you connect or tweak the C-Beam. Photos will be great.

heres a question. If you use a front motor plate to mount the motor with a solid trans mount. Do you HAVE to run a mid plate?

You do not. All you have to do is host the pictures somewhere and then hotlink them. There are a ton of places that you can do it for free. I'm sure a fellow forum member would also host them for you.

www.imageshack.us is the best free host I have found.
