And it doesn't do any good,, been several tech write ups concerning and testing data to boot and there isn't any gains by it.. again, another waste of money.
It's not really a mod, i switched to an lt-1 manifold so i have to put it somewhere... i just wanted to make sure it wouldnt have any negative effects since the readings its getting in the plenum are probably hotter than in the airbox
It basically measures the cooler temp of the air entering the air stream, so giving you a bit more timing. It might work, but it might also work against you if your engine is running hot. I used it with many mods on my '85. Not sure if it helped or not, but seemed to work good as I got no knock or problems with the ram air I ran into the superram setup back then.
An IAT relocate is also a fast, inexpensive way to replace your manifold-mounted IAT if it fails. But, I'm told it can cause your engine to run rich, since the ECM is programmed to compensate for the extra heat generated by the original placement.
Because of the intake, I have done the same with no problems.
With what you have done to the car you will probably be doing some datalogging and fine tuning anyways.
I have moved the IAT sensor on my 89 from under the plenum to the front air intake. I cannot see any performance gain from the aftermarket kit. However, the new location makes servicing the IAT much easier. If you want a photo, let me know.
