I have read that the throttle body plates have a coating on them that some chemical cleaners can remove. This coating is supposed to retard deposits. Unfortunately, I don't know which chemicals are safe. In addition, you can scrub the coating of with some abrasive pads.
If it is throttle body safe it should say that on the can. However, you state that it is a carbon remover, do you mean carbon on the top of the cylinder? How about GM top engine cleaner?
Well, they say it is very similar to the GM Top Engine Cleaner, but cheaper. It comes in liquid or spray. The z28 guys put a can in the fuel and 1/2 can in the oil. Then they allow a vacuum line to suck the liquid into the intake area 'till the engine stalls. Some use the spray instead of the liquid in the intake.
They leave it for 15 minutes then start the engine and engulf the neighborhood in smoke for about 5 minutes. It's supposed to clean the carbon out of the intake and valves. They claim amazing results.
That's all I know about it. Don't know if it's TB safe. Just wondering if it's worth the trouble.
My son works at NAPA. He has customers who buy it by the case for resale at car shows. The user comments he gets make this stuff sound like the greatest thing since sex.
