distributor replacement

I have a 93 and have heard a lot of horror stories about distributor failure. Do thay fail that often? My car now has 101,000 miles should it be changed, just cap and rotor or the hole thing? It looks to be a big job dont want to do it twice. Is this somthing a weekend mechanic can tackle?

I wouldn't worry about your opti until it starts to fail. At 101k you are lucky. I'm on my third at 23k. And yes, it's something a weekend mechanic can tackle.

took me 6 hours to replace. Consider replacing the waterpump too...If you are very ambitious and this has never been dowe yet, consider replacing the timing cover seals and timing chain.
