It sounds like it's time for a new book. The proper year FSM will not only list the sources of all the codes, but also a trouble shooting chart for each code to keep you from wasting money replacing good parts.
Code 36 is the MAF burnoff circuit, If you're lucky it's the relay, you have 2 relays, MAF burnoff and MAF power, about 10-15 bucks each, replace both. If you had the FSMs CFI-EFI suggested you could trouble shoot the entire code 36, wires and all.
Thanks Rick and CFI-EFI
If I remember correctly, they're on the inner fender, near the battery. My car's been running good for a couple of years, and I haven't had to do any repairs (summers only - low miles). I had to replace a relay in that area a couple of years ago. I forgot what for, but I'll check the entire circuit, starting with the wires and connectors, and end with the relays. If that doesn't do it, I'll replace the MAF.
Running ok w/ the error code made me guess that it's in "safe" mode, and that's probably why it seems to run acceptably.
Do you have a FSM? It is much cheaper than a new MAF and will show you exactly what the problem is from the troubleshooting steps. If you don't have the manual...I will try and lead you step by step from my 86 manual (should be about the same). BTW, if you contact Agent86, he has the codes out of his manual and will post it for you.
Thanks RRT and 86Pacer.
I'll be on it tomorrow afternoon. My idea of a perfect Sunday - under the hood of my Corvette, chasing a problem that's not too hard and is easy to get at.
Thanks again for really coming through with the pdf of the FSM.
