Does anyone notice their hood shaking when they hit bumps or road vibration? Maybe this is just typical of the C4 clamshell hood design? My hood looks like its bouncing up and down.
I have observed this on my 92 LT1. I turned The hard rubber snubbers up a bit to try & stop this. Now I'm observing a spider webbing in the paint in the very center of the hood. The bouncing has diminished to a large degree.
Was the tightening the cause of the webbing or co-incidental , I don't know.

Years ago when we were kids, my best friend had a '70 Cuda 440 Six-Pack with the Shaker hood. As you probably know, but many may not, the functional scoop was part of the air cleaner and stuck through the hood. So at a stop light, the scoop would be shaking nicely (hence the name) and someone had to think they were pretty bad before they'd choose him.
That was such a bad-*** street car. 390 HP 440 (said now to have been under-rated) with 3 2 barrel Holleys on a factory Edelbrock that ran 13.20 all stock except for headers. They were actually a tad quicker, both stock, than the Hemi Cudas.
My 94 shakes and scared my wife once thinking it was going to pop open. On my 96 the whole car shook so much when the roof was off you'd expect the hood to pop open any second, but I can't remember how it was with the top on.
I have noticed my 86 hood shakes a little as described, but my 95 doesn't.
Thats interesting. I was thinking that a vert might be worse. Can you see anything different between the two in the way the hood is secured or supported.
This is really bugging me.
The front end shakes a little on my car but when I hit bumps the hood does jump around a little. The later year C4's came with rubber hood supports on top of the fire wall and thats why they dont vibrate as much. You can buy them at MA.

Actually, my 95 (FX3) vert ride tighter than the 86 coupe. The only thing I have noticed is the size of the springs on the male hood latch on the hood. They are thicker/heavy duty looking springs on the 95. They are not very easily pushed back where as the 86 springs I can push back with a little effort. Don't know if that will help you any.
I have never seen a hood on a c4 that doesnt shake while driving.... i love the shake, all the people i take round in it all agree that it adds character and gives the car a good muscular look.... not that the vette needs any extra muscle
