Hey everyone, whats the deal with this thing? I bought a new wiper fluid pump as a "while I'm in here" replacement while doing the evaporator. Anyways, it looks like there is a nut inside the bottle that is moving with the pump when you try to turn it. Can you not replace these things? I bought the pump for $15 at autozone, but without splitting the bottle open it looks impossible to replace.
I relaced mine last week. Take the fender off (vent) that covers the bottle and remove the rear section of the wheel well. this will expose the bolt in the rear of the bottle. Once you have the bottle out the strainer doubles as a nut and threads onto the pump. You need a long extention to access through the fill port. You need a deep socket to clear the strainer. My strainer would not thread back on with the new washer supplied with the pump as it was thicker than the stock one so I used the old one as it was in good shape. Took me about 45 minutes.
'87 has no strainer and the nut isn't directly beneath the fill opening. As seen here the whole car is apart, its just getting the pump out of the bottle that won't happen.

Boy was I wrong! I was able to get to it with a whole maze of universal joints and long extensions. There is a small strainer down at the bottom, I never noticed it before. I thought you meant a strainer right at the top by the fill cap like later years had.

I did this 2 years ago since my washer pump wasnt working. I put a new one in and yet it still doesnt work. The tubes that spray the fluids are good and clean and nothing is obstructing it. I posted about it several times and yet no one had any insights to what was wrong. I gave up on it and havent used it since.
Are you going to replace your A/C evaporator core too, Scorp? Is it leaking or does it just need cleaning?
Yep, I just replaced it this weekend to cure a super weak airflow problem. I looks like it was leaking, but the system held a charge fine. <shrug> I replaced it for peace of mine.

Can someone hear the pump running when you press the button? Is there power being applied to the wiring harness down there when you do?
