I'm working on a starting problem with my '87 convertible. I need to check the start voltage at the terminal on the starter solenoid that comes from the start-enable relay.
From the bottom of the engine, I can't figure out how to get my hand and a multimeter probe up into the space between the engine and the exhaust manifold to put the probe on the starter solenoid terminal. I also tried removing the wheel-well cover behind the front tire hoping I could get at the solenoid from the side, but there are fuel lines right in the middle of that opening and I can't get my hand in that way either.
Is there a trick to this? (other than renting a young person with very small hands!)
When i did my 85 i used an insulated clip on for my meter. You still have to jack it up and get your hand in through the lines. The fully insulated clipons save from shorts and fire and the need for extra person with long enough leads.
