Default temp over 170 degrees

On my 85 I have a chip by alvin that's programed to turn the fan on at 160 degrees along with the 160 thermostat. I've been using the 160 degree temp setup about 4 years. Last weekend I had to change the fan temp sensor(broke the plastic tip changing my headers ). I never had any trouble with my cooling system. Now my temp is holds aroud 175 when driving on the street, and once I get into traffic it creeps up to 200. I flip the switch to see what the reading is on the oil temp and it read" LO". I know the fan comes on at 160. But I can't figure out why the temp is climbing into the 200 range with the fan on. Before all this on a 90+ degree day the temp would never get over 175 sitting in stop and go traffic. Any ideas ??

Default A shot in the dark

This is a long shot, but I also run a 160 setup. My car sat for a few weeks while I was doing some work, & the local dust clogged my radiator & condenser. It wasn't visible until I blew it out with an air hose, & then all worked fine again. I only discovered this after changing sensors, thermostat, & tried many trouble-shooting techniques. This may not aply in your case, but it's always worth keeping in the back of your mind.

Thanks Coconut! I'll keep it in mind. My car was sitting in my garage for about two weeks when I change my sensor. I don't have much dust or dirt to mention in my garage, but i'll check to see if there's something that could be blocking the radiator. It wouldn't hurt to check it out.

Did you just add headers or did you swap them out for a different set? If just added the additional heat of the headers is suspect and more than likely the cause for the rise in temp. 175 is great! I wish I had that but 200 is fine too.
