ok all i am new to the forums and the vette world.
i have been on these forums almost day and night for the bast couple of weeks..
i would like to know about the MUST DO mods for my 85 Vette.
i have seen some pretty cool brake cooling mods and a couple of intake mods
are there any that are absolute must do mods
honestly, you don't need to "Mod" a thing with these cars. They were built well and drive great as is. Moding is for fun and personal enjoyment of the individual. Put on what you like but if you have a question about what works to improve the performance or doesn't, then this is the place to check.
welcome.
Pull the engine out and rebuild it as a 383, with twin intercooled/twin turbo, better clutch, Willwood 6 piston calipers with 14 inch rotors on the front and 4 piston on the rear, handles all around the passenger seat, and a "CRANE CAMS" sticker for the top of your windscreen.
Badduck...to answer your question......It needs more power.......it handles awsomly....
Corvetteman.....i already have the 13 oversized slotted rotors and large calipers...all from stainless steel brake corp
when i bought the car the Suspension on it was all redone for autocross.. its been dropped 2inches front and rear... 17x9.5 ZR1 wheels, 275x40x17 kumho's.. bilstein shocks and others... polyur.. bushings. plus other modified suspention parts......3:45 gears... new close ratio clutch....
the guy did all the work on the tranny, gears and suspention.... never touched the motor.
what does your L98 need? headers, intake, heads/cam.....in that order.
superchargers are cool, but by the time its said & done the expense exceeds what i mentioned above.
nitrous is cool, super cheap for sure, but its not power on demand 24/7, you're refilling bottles all the time, and if you're not careful you'll blow your engine.
vader's site will explain it all for you. i'm too damn dumb to do it here.

Check out my profile.
My car is uber-reliable at the dragstrip and now with the drag radials doesn't lose to LS1 fbodies at the local 1/8mi. Holds its own at the autocross and in the canyons. Stock motor too. It's been a great daily driver until some bad luck the past few weeks.
Probably some of the best mods though were not performance at all but really make the car more enjoyable... The keyless entry and the window regulator upgrade.
If you really want to wake it up, you should consider upgrading to alum 113 heads, a mild cam, exhaust, and intake, (at least the baseplate, it's the most restrictive part). You can also port the stock plenum and runners to help the breath a little better with the other mods.
Also, your 85 came new with forged pistons, so nitrous is also a definite option.

My suggestion for your 85 is to start slow. Get to know the car for a while and then jump in. Have a goal and than execute it. This board is great and information is abundant. Welcome to the forum and great year by the way!
