The new engine is definitely not hitting on all cylinders. :cuss I have checked ignition and all is well. I'm thinking an injector is not working properly, or possibly I did the valves wrong, and a valve is staying open or something... how can I check the injectors. I'd like to assume they're good. They're brand new Accell 24#. Could a lifter have pumped up with oil and caused excessive pre-load to keep a valve open??? any thoughts???
Re: New Engine is Missing!!!!! Help!!!! (FoolCrzy)
first thing I'd do, pull the plugs and see what they look like.
if a injector isn't firing that plug should still look new.
you can also pull the connector off one injector at a time while its running, and listen for a difference (beats getting shocked by plug wires) the one with no or little difference is your problem cylinder.
if its more of a miss, its most likely the lifter adjustment. a dead cylinder (like with no spark or no fuel) is very noticeable, motor shakes big time and will hardly run.
don't rule out a bad sparkplug ether. I've seen a brand new plug be bad.
hope you find the prob.

First lets see which cylinder is not firing. With a cold engine start it up and using a spray bottle gently spray water on each of the manifold/header pipes. The water should immediatly boil off, when you get one that does not, you found the cylinder that is not firing. Check to make sure the connector is all the way on the injector, as I have done this many times just to find a loose connector.

You can unlpug the siganl wire from heach injector while the car is adling and listen for a difference in idle speed. You can also check the resistance of each injector with an ohm meter. They all should be the same. I had this happen when I put my engine in and the problems I had was 2 plug wires crosses (I am a little embarassed to admit) and one plug was defective and would not fire. Check the firing order carefully. I think 3 aqnd 5 I had switched. The car ran pretty well considering.
Yep, spray water will work. For one that only fires intermittently, hook up your timing light to each wire and watch the flashes. At idle they should be steady and evenly spaced. One that skips is malfunctioning.
Either plug, wire, distributor cap or rotor ((or all of the above) if your engine is so equipped.
