I'm about to do the brakes on my 92 C4 and a friend mentioned the mityvac for flushing the brake fluid. l am wondering if this tool is safe to use with an ABS system and does anyone have any experience with it or recommendations?
I just bought a Mityvac from Sears at a cost of $70. This is the aluminum version and I used it for the first time today on my "other" 2003 car. I flushed the brake system and added new fluid. This was an easy task with the Mityvac tool. The 89 Vette is next! I highly recommend this tool!
The nice thing about the Mityvac is you can bleed the brakes by yourself. One problem I've encountered using the Mityvac is a small amount of air bubbles slipping by the threads of the bleeder screw. I've tried using teflon tape and pipe compound on the threads but still get the tiny bubbles. Once I see clean fluid entering the Mityvac I'm guessing the lines are clear of bubbles. It works pretty slick!
They are SpeedBleeders and they work great. I've had them for a couple of years and use them for complete brake flushes. They're fast, easy and a one man job.
I just used mine this weekend on my brakes... worked fine... I used a little larger hose to slip completely over the bleeder valve and it worked just fine...
I'll be posting the brake upgrades on my web site soon...
