My overdrive wasn't working so I decided to start the trouble shooting scenario today. So I got into the switch, and checked it for continuity. Yep, had that. Then I moved down to the wiring. I disconnected the connector, and measured continuity from both wires on the switch to the connector. Continuity on one, but not the other. I was onto something, and was exited to find it that quickly. So I cleaned the connector terminals, and I had continuity there, I thought. Turns out one of the wires was broken inside the insulation. This is something I rarely see, I'm glad I found it. So I started the soldering process with my head held high. Went to take the switch off, and like a typical vette, the damn thing shattered.
I guess what I am asking is. Can that switch be bought from autopart, or GM, or do I have to build my own??? Many Thanks...
Can use any switch that fits from a elec supply place like Radio Shack.
What year model?
The late use a "momentary" on switch where I believe the early use a off / on switch.
PM Scorp508 , he knows 4+3 s , has prob got a part # for the switch

Wups, Sorry, it is a 1988 L98. Thanks...
EDIT: Just checked with GM, and they have the switch. Over 30.00 b0nes is the price. Think I may see what the shack has, and adapt...

Advance search Scorp508's old threads for posts with "overdrive switch". He has a p/n listed somewhere in the archives where you can get the exact momentary switch for pennies on the dollar and solder it in yourself.

Hey Thanks Kevin, I shot him a PM. I couldn't find the post. Not much of a computer whiz here...
Hey Thanks Everybody, Got you a new part #: Try Radio Shack part # 275-1549a. Works like a charm, and cost me $3.49. The push shaft is only slightly smaller, but works fine. I chose to take the roll pin out, and replace it with a solid pin just a hair larger than the roll pin. Works GREAT.
Now, if I just hadn't broke my O.D. push button. I took it off, and put it on many times with no problem. Well when I went to button her up for the LAST time, that dude broke. I can't win, for loosing...
For 86-88 the overdrive switch is part 61F753 at www.newark.com and was $11.00 when I last bought one. This is exactly the same switch, but they look to be out of stock right now though.
The manufacturer of the switch and their part # is...
Manufacturer: TYCO ELECTRONICS / ALCOSWITCH
Manufacturer Part No.: MPA106F

Sorry for the delay. I was fighting a virus outbreak at work yesterday for 14 hours, blah.
