Default Question For Pete K

I have a 700r4 Transmission.
It is spraying fluid out of the front seal. I changed the seal and as soon as I started the engine, it immediately started leaking again.
this transmission has about 3000 miles on it.

Any idea what is causing that much pressure to be made?

Pre 86 units had a small oil return in the pump housing. They were known to build pressure and blow the front seal out. They often pushed the bushing out too . The permanent fix is to pull the pump, open up the passage with a larger drill bit. Then replace the bushing using locktite on the outside diameter. Then replace the seal and install a brand new seal retainer. Most of these pumps have already been modded, but occasionally I run into one that isn't. It is usually addressed by the rebuilder. My buddy had the same thing happen to his 84. It blew out while road racing at Pocono.

....i had a trannie that i thought blew a front seal, after dropping the trannie, i replaced the seal just to find out after re-installation, that i had a hairline crack (barely visible) in the "shaft" of the torque converter. 2 "r+r"s" in one day, ugh!

I did not have my morning coffe before the first post. The regulator valve could have hung up too. Regardless, I would suggest having the pump completely gone thru. Too much R&R labor to do it more than once. A pump can be gone through in an hour or 2. Not too tough to do. Parts are minimal.
