I am looking at new tires for my 91 and a good family friend happens to be a tire dealer. I was getting some prices and comparisons from him and he said not only that the GSD3 wasn't the best tire for the money, but that they were about to stop production on them. I havent heard anything on this before. Does anyone know why they would stop making them? Also, does anyone have experience with other comparable tires like the toyo t1r or pirelli p zero? im looking for a good driving tire for the road, I don't have much time for the track, but I do enjoy performance.

I've heard that rumor once before but have no idea one way or the other, beyond heresay. I can tell you from experience though, that the Pirelli P Zeros were the worst tires I've ever had on my Vette.

I put BF Goodrich G Force on my 91 and love em,had Goodyear eagles when I bought it .Now the rides softer and the price is a lot less.Check em out
We put Toyo TR-1's all around on our 92 a few weeks ago and so far they have been great. Good traction. Greatly improved ride. Took off the Pirelli Pzero's. And they did not break the bank.
You guys are gonna hate me for saying it, but I like the Kuhmo Supra 712's. Very affordable and they've stood up to a LOT of punishment so far. Dont get me wrong, Goodyears are better, but you cant beat Kuhmos for the price.

Some of the best street tires I've ever had on this car were the Kumho MXs. There were always very predictable and forgiving when pushed to the limit, or slightly beyond.
The GSD3s are hard for many dealers to acquire, so they down play them. Just go to tirerack or discount tire direct online and have them shipped to a recommended installer.
I have the Goodyears on my 96 and think that they are great. But a friend of mine just bought a 94 roadster with Firestone Wide Ovals on it and I couldn`t believe how much less road noise there was with them.Plus they are available at Tire Rack for about $150.00 each.
I haven't heard anything but you never know. I put D 3's on my 96 LT4 what a diff. from the Toyo's they hold the road really well & don't feel greasy when it gets hot down here in TX. Donf
Well its there best tire right now i guess since they discontinued the 315/35/17 in the Supercar F1, but i still think they carry then 275/40/17 in the Supercar F1. The GS-D3 doesnt hold a candle to the supercar tire however.
My friend(DDSLT5) on the zr1 side of things with the 415 LT5(585rwhp/500rwtq) naturally aspirated 60 foots 1.8's with the F1 supercar tire. that must say something about the grip etc........dont get me wrong the GS-D3 is a good tire.

I would agree about Kuhmo, but for the extra $50 a tire, The Kuhmo MX is night and day ahead of the 712. I had the 712's a few years ago. They wear was good, and they were great in the rain, but the handling wasnt good. Actually the 712 tires sucked in grip compared to those Goodyear's. But you pay for what you get!!!
The GS D-3 is the Best high performance tire on the market according to Car and Driver and Europes Best wet weather tire...
I love them on my '88
see the December '05 article where they were rated against 10 others....

Sounds good. i have driven cars with both the Supercar and the GS-D3, and to me the Supercar kicked butt!
Was the Supercar tire in that article? There is a reason they came stock on the C5 Z06's and the Ford GT because they stick and handle. Down side they dont last long if your hard on them.
Sorry but the GS-D3 is a MUCH better tire than the supercrap. I've had both on my car. The GS-D3 also weighs 2 lbs less per tire.
The viper comes with michelin pilot sport zp tires, they are far from michelin best tire, the ps2. There are much bigger reasons factory cars come with the crappy tires they tend to come with.

Let me guess the GS-D3 is the best tire period? They arent the tire that the supercar tires are...... Goodyear discontinued the SC tires for the C4's. Not enough demand and too pricey for the average C4 owner. C5 guys love them however.

No, it's not the best tire period. Basically, anything new is better than what's coming off the car. I have ps2's as well and it's a hard choice for me which is better. I think I like the ps2 better cause the tread blocks don't rip off as bad in corners. I get the same 1.8 60ft on either tire, in fact, I've gotten 1.8 60ft on every tire I've ever owned....no matter how bald they were. 60ft testing isn't always the best test for tire traction though. How it performs around turns and when raining around turns etc is just as important.
It's a good thing they aren't the tire the supercar is, I would have already wrecked as I almost did when I had them.
Tirerack has the GS-D3 for sale, I've seen no proof they've been discontinued. In fact, they are still listed on the goodyear website. Even their site shows the GS-D3 is a better tire if you average the ratings: http://www.goodyeartires.com/goodyea...=40&image.y=15
As for price, they are waaaaay cheaper than the ps2's I got.
