700r4 Issues after rebuild....
The trans has a Transgo shift-kit, Redline clutches and steel, 0.50 boost valve and a couple of other things that I cant remember at this time. The shift from 1st to 2nd is real hard which is ok. I have to be careful because if I leave a stop light in a spirited manner (nothing too agressive) there is always a chirp on the 1-2 shift.
1 - At WOT when I manually shift there is a significant delay after I shift from 2nd to 3rd - eg 1/4 mile run. I would like to know what is most likely causing this.
2 - If I am on the freeway traveling at freeway speeds and I need to romp on it the trans will not downshift from 4th to 3rd. I need to manually kick it into third.
I think both issues are related but I need some ideas on where to start to troubleshoot where the real problem is. I don't changing what can but I personally will not rip into the trans myself. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
First thing to do is make sure the 'TV' cable is adjusted properly.
Loosen it up by pressing the little release on the retainer and shove the cable to the rear.
Get in the car and press the accelerator all the way to the floor.
This will automatically adjust the cable to the correct position.
Unofficially:
While it's not usually necessary and you have to be careful not to move the TV cable from it's proper position very much, you can modify the way the transimission shifts (a small amount) my moving the TV cable about 1/4" forward or backward. Forward increases the pump pressure and will cause harder shifts at a little faster speed and moving the cable to the rear does the opposite.
The TV cable sets the 'operating point' for the hydraulic pressures of the transmission. It is a dynamic pressure adjustment and it controls the shift down of the transmission.
This is on a 700R4.
The newer tranmissions are ECM controlled.
Try the TV cable (Throttle Valve) adjustment first.......

They said disconnect the TV cable, and ensure your throttle body goes to WOT. Then pop the TV cable to let it slide freely. Then reconnect the TV cable and floor it, then pull the TV cable as far back, towards windshield as you can, and this should be set properly. Does this sound right, before I get a guage ?
Heres there number 626-443-7451
