Default Spark Plug swap. Plug #8???

I know this has been gone over a gazillion times however I'm stumped. I changed plugs 1 - 7 this morning on my '95 LT-1 Coupe however I was unable to get to the 8th plug (passengers side, far rear). The drivers side is super easy once you remove the three bolts holding down the ASR and swing it out of the way. Seems nearly impossible to get a ratchet down there to get the 8th plug out. Anyone have any recommendations? Thank you.

Gm dealers will do all of that, for about $55, i was having the same problem, i damage the spark plug hold, the #8 plug wouldn't go in, it cost me $175 to get it fix, now i will let dealer do it.

Hope that help.

There isn't enough room for a ratchet driver on #8. I use a sparkplug socket that has an external hex on the end and I use a box end wrench on the hex.
This is a Craftsman socket. I do the same with #2. Hope this helps.

I got in there fine with a ratchet, I put the socket on the plug first then attached the ratchet.
If that dosent work use an open end wrench on the socket or a universal fitting with a long extension.
My problem was getting the new plug started by hand. I have done this twice now. I think what I did last time was turn my body so I could twist my hand so that the back of my hand was flat up against the AC box and managed somehow to get it started. Sounds goofy but it only took me 5 mins that way last time as compared to about 30mins of fighting with it the first time I did it.

The fun part is starting the plug back in the hole without cross threading it.

Make sure the engine is COLD!

It is tight but you can do it. I believe I put the socket on the plug first. Next, I attached the ratchet to the socket. It seems that every plug requires a different angle or different socket extension, etc. You just have to mess around with each plug and try all your various length extensions. It is a pain but it can be done. It took me about an hour the last time I did it.

To get the spark plug thread started i use a long piece of hose that fits tight on the tip of the plug, that will usually get the thread started enough so you dont cross-thread it.

Yup, that's the way I do it. I think my plug socket is a Husky (POS). I have done it once with a ratchet, but it's much more painful.

As for starting the plug into the hole, that is a big pain. What works for you depends on how skinny your arms are; my arms are skinny, and I think I reached straight down from the top, between the motor and AC box. Good luck.
