Default Can someone explain this?

My car's idle is inconsistent. Slight surges. I checked for vacuum leaks and I found a hose loose. I fixed it, the idle got better for a couple of days, then back to slight surges. I checked for more vacuum leaks and found another. I added a hose clamp, checked and no more leak. Again, the idle was fine for a couple of days. It is now inconsistent again?

What can be causing this? Seems like everything is fine once I find a leak and fix it, then a couple of days go by and another leak will show up somewhere else?

Have you hooked up a vacuum gauge to it? How many inches does it pull?

Sounds like you still have a vac leak somewhere, be it vac lines or intakes gasket, ect.

With my vacuum leak experience it would idle up and down while in open loop (<140* engine temp) and then idle fine after closed loop. Fix the leak and no more surging idle.

Have you check the vac line that connects to the bottom left of the TB from the EGR solenoid?

This is what I have found so far: The egr line was loose, the hose you mentioned above had a leak, and the hose from the PCV to the engine had a leak.
The thing that is confusing me is this, why does it get better when I fix a leak, then it seems another leak appears? I found the loose hose and engine seemed to idle better. Within 48 hours, bad idle again. I check everything, find a leak, idles fine - then again, within 48 hours another leak?
Were these leaks there the whole time and I missed them? Were they there and got worse from me fixing the other leaks? Are they new leaks being caused by something else?

There might be a few leaks that have been masked and show up when you fixed one.

Looking over these lines is time consuming. It took me a long time to find my leak, and when I did it was in the end of the PVC pipe...the size of a pencil eraser.

Could be. Some have replaced the brittle plastic lines with rubber.

Use propane, WD-40, starting fluid, or a garden hose to your ear. Use the propane sparingly as it stays in the area. The idle will increase slightly when the propane is sucked in to the vacuum. I could hear a hiss when ever the idle went down. The plenum gaskets could have a leak. The TB gasket or IAC gasket could have a leak. Proper inspection and visualy checking every line help.

There is a sticker on the radiator cover that should show you a similar diagram that Agent86 posted in a different thread. This may differ from yours.
