1985 5.7 TPI automatic. I can not turn the key off. I have removed the ignition switch and still can not move the key from the start position. Any ideas would help.

You will need to remove the steering wheel to inspect the lock cylinder and rack mechanism that connects the key cylinder to the switch, additional column disassembly may be necessary. It can be an intimidating job the first time you do it, there are lots of parts and some special tools required. At the very least get a factory service manual before attempting it, even better would be help from someone who has been there before. Wish I had an easier answer, good luck.

Chech the ring on the steering column in back of the key switch were a column shifter would be. If this ring is moved out of position, the key can't be removed.
Good luck,
Joe
