I am looking for some help with streaky windows on my 94 vert. I have tried everything but the more I wash them the streakier they look. I have no idea what could of got on them. I did have the car detailed this Spring and I am not sure if they did anything. Does anyone know what is the best way to clean streaky windows? They are not dirty. When I wipe them with windex after a few minutes they look streaky. Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!!
I have the same problem with my 93 Camaro. Windex absolutly will not clean those windows without streaking. I have a co-worker who also has a 93, and she has the same problem. I really think there's some different kind of coating on the inside of the glass (seems like all the streaking is on the inside), but anyway, I have found that Stoner brand Invisi Glass cleaner works great on them. I assume you are talking about the glass windows on the doors and windshield? You should never use an amonia based or abrasive cleaner on plastic top window (disregard if yours is glass), only plastic cleaner and polish. 3m, Meguires, etc... all make these. I personally like the 3m stuff. Auto parts stores, body shop supplies, motorcycle, or marine shops should have these. Try the Stoners(think Kragen and Walmart carry it), You'll like it!

......a few years ago, i spoke with a couple of professional window washers that do skyscrapers and the like and asked them what they uses.
they told me that up high it has to be "right" as they won't come back and do it again.....so, he said 1 cup of alcohol, 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of amonia......i checked this out with my "phd-ed" chemist relative and the mixture is safe in that, i gives off no toxic fumes......then, wipe with lint free cloth or b+w newspaper....
If you want to be down and dirty until you get something good. I'll share my experiences with cleaning projection TV mirrors, it works for the car too.
Back in the day when when projection TVs were the size of your house they used a large almost perfect mirror in the back to reflect the image. I worked for Sears as a TV repairman (AWESOME SET OF TOOLS MAN) and cleaned a lot of these of smoke film, and general dirt, dust.
After trying many methods and cleaners I found Windex is akin to not cleaning it at all, it would probably be better to not clean it at all.
Glass Plus on the other hand is quite different, no streaks and real user friendly.
When I clean the mirror or my car windows I never spray the cleaner on the glass. I try to use Brawney paper towels, two of them folded at the perf to make one again. What it is about Brawneys I don't know but they seemed to work the best.
Wet down both sides of the folded Brawney with Glass Plus until it almost feels like its soaked, maybe a little less.
The reason for both sides isn't so you have two sides to work with, one side is for wiping and the other side being wet keeps you hand from slipping off the towel and smudging your hard work. The two ply thing is so you don't burn through with your hand and smudge it that way.
When you think the side you have on the glass is used up, unfold the two plys and refold to the fresh sides on the outside. Re-wet a bit and do it again. Don't turn the thing over and use the side your hand was on, it now contains oils from your hand and will smudge and smear.
That's the way I do mine anyway and have no smudges, smears, streaks, nothing but clean glass. Once I tossed a butt into a closed window because I was certain it was open. That's clean.
