Default Replace Opti??

I have a leaking crank seal on my 96 with 62000 miles, and need to remove water pump. I am planning on replacing pump with new one as long as it's off. Should I replace Opti too, or is it still good to go as long as it has not been hosed??

This is a tough call. The second-generation OEM Optis are known to often go well north of 100k trouble-free miles so long as they don't get hosed. There's a good chance your original Opti has a good many more miles left in it. On the other hand, it'll be right there in front of you, so you'll never have an easier time replacing it.

Comes down to a peace-of-mind vs. cost decision, I'd say.

If you don't swap it and the original lasts another 60k miles, you'll feel like a genius for leaving it alone. If you don't swap it and it fails soon thereafter, you'll be kicking yourself. Which outcome has more appeal to you? And how much will you hate tearing it down again if it does fail soon?

Be well,

SJW

At the very least, I'd change the cap and rotor. They wear out just like any other cap and rotor. But for another $100, you can have a brand new unit and you can keep your currently operating unit as a spare.

Yep, I was leaning towards replacing as I would much rather be driving it than spending more time doing another tear down procecure in the near future. Will wait for other input, if any. Thanks all!!!
