Default Yet another stupid problem!#@%#*% interior lights are crazy

this happened again for the Fifth time and it drives me CRAZY. The interior lights come on when the door is shut then flick off then come on then off so on and so on. If I open the door then re-close it they stay off for a few seconds then same _hit all over again, sometimes it doesn't help if I re-shut the door or not the damn things stay on then of course when it's daylight I don't notice and I can't go home because my battery is dead from 10 hours with the light on. I also can hear a clicking coming from inside the door. this problem comes and goes with no regularity. I.E. wet, dry, hot, cold, short drive, long drive, while driving, when sitting...... my guess is the switch in the door has anybody else had this problem and how hard to fix it? Thanks

It sounds like you have a short somewhere, either in a switch or wire. I woulds first try unplugging each door switch one at a time and trying it that way, just to see if one of them is shorting. If not, then you might have to start taking apart the doors and dash. Good luck.

You have the PKE system right ??? I'm a bit tired, but I think that was the first year of the system... Did you just buy the car??? If so, you may have a surprise hidden somewhere inside...

When I first bought my 96, it would occasionally act how you describe, I couldn't figure it out...

One day, while stuck in stop and go freeway traffic, I was cut off by an impatient driver jockeying his way for that few extra feet closer to his destination... I hit the brakes hard enough to engage the ABS and come to a complete stop... Can you guess what slid out from under the passenger side seat??? That's right, another brand new but dusty $120 PKE remote!!!

I took it out of the car and didn't have that problem anymore...

What leads me to believe you have another PKE transmitter hidden inside is that you mentioned what sounds like the door locks cycling with the lights... Only the PKE will do that, if you had a bad door switch and it kept turning the lights on, I think the factory alarm system would probably blare the horn at you... But I guess you could have a bad PKE receiver in the car, I imagine that would do that too...

Hopefully it's another PKE remote, since those things are very expensive to replace, it would be nice to have another one as a spare...

I have had the car for about 3 months and have no idea what a PKE is so I may very well have one. where are they located and how can I find out for sure if that is the problem? the clicking may be the locks but the sound seems like it's coming from around where the switch is on the door but that may just be where the lock mecanisim is also so.... thank's again

PKE is Passive Keyless Entry... Basically it's a special key fob for the Corvette that works off of proximity rather than you having to press a button on the fob... If you have the remote, the door unlocks, the factory alarm disarms itself, and the interior lights come on, all of this happens when you walk up to the car... When you leave the proximity of the car, the reverse happens...

The PKE key fob transmitter works off of vibration... When it senses movement like jingling in your pocket as you walk, it transmits the unlock code... If you leave it in your car, it may intermittenly transmit causing the PKE system to unlock the doors... Have you ever approached the car after you heard the noise to see if the doors were unlocked???

If you have the owner's manual check it out, it has a section in there describing the PKE operation and how to change the modes, off/on, or driver only or both door unlock...

The key fob may be in a compartment in the car, look around.

Aquaman93.
I think the transmitter in the FOB goes to sleep after 20 secs. of inactivity, so I don't think that it would drain your battery after you shut-down.I would check the door/ajar switches. Exercise em' & then a light spray of WD-40.
