91 ccm replacement
Thanks for any thoughts,
Randall
Someone recommneded cleaning the connections on the ccm and I went down that path. To get the ccm out you need to disassemble the drivers side bolster and dash center support. The ccm is in a pretty tight space. I did clean the connections to no avail. It is my understanding that once you have it out and go to replace it with a different ccm, it has to be programmed for your car by a dealer (not the gospel but what I read here and in the shop manual for a 91)
I also bought a 94 cluster off ebay and tried it, the 90 and 91 are the same cluster and newer models will not work. A later model cluster will show data but it will not be correct. If you try a newer cluster and get something it may mean your ccm is functional, at least to some degree. According to a post farther down from yours, it is suggested that a later model cluster will work if you swap out the lcd from your 91.
good luck and take none of the above as professional advice, just my hard knocks

If the CCM is freaking, the car more than likely won't start... it's what sends the VATS signal to the ECM to start the car... if the CCM was dying a slow death, that would not work. Even with a VATS bypass, it wouldn't read the known good resister.
Also, the ABS/Audio and climate controls might get wacky, too.
