Trying to find out what year head unit will fit in my 1989 convertible... Want to swap over from a cassette to CD unit but unsure what years will just plug into my system as well as fit in factory dash location...
You can check in several locations for many different types of stereo. Mid America and Ecklers have direct fit radios. Crutchfield.com is another alternative. Their catalog will tell you which ones would fit with little or no modifications on the dash and will send you a harness, if needed, for the wiring. If you have bose, you will have to buy an adapter, 2 types, which is not too hard to install. Crutchfield has an excellent tech number to call for assistance. They are knowledgable, and you are not on hold forever.
Is there any reason that you want to specifically stick with a stock-ish head unit? If you care about sound quality don't get a stocker one. They sound terrible. Also, you don't have to spend a fortune to get a good one.

I think he means that he wants one that fits like stock.
I too would like one that fits like stock (damm 1.5 din  ) but I'm not about to pay Eckler's ludicrous CD player prices...

Ok, that would made a little more sence. I'd just say have it not look as good and get a Pioneer DEH P2300. Great amplifier chip and cheap!
Stock unit fits like it is supposed to and lights as it is supposed to at night... Not as important as good sound but not to be ignored either... As for the Bose, mine too sounds like crap on the radio or store bought tapes but if you bump up the quality to home made medal tapes, it sound crystal clear... Not a very good tuner indeed but the tape problem is cheap retail tapes... On mine anyway, never heard any other to know if it is all of them but mine...
overall the bose unit is very poor quality. I've never really heard anything that I would consider "quality" come from that system. You would honestly be suprised what a simple head unit swap would do in sound quality.
Like I said, DEH p 2300. Same amp chip as some of the more expensive pioneers and cheap. One of the better amp chips on the market too!
