Default cam question

have to get new lifters for my 90 L98'...figure while I'm ripping the motor apart anyway, might as well put in a new cam ...I was wondering what you guys would suggest...a lil' about the car....I have a 90' vette ...had her since I was 19....only 18,000 miles....I have done mostly bolt on work to the car...borla exhaust with zr-1 tips, random tech cat, open air box, k and n filter...hypertech chip, thermostat, pulleys, a throttle body spacer plate...changed the sealed beam lights to hella e-code headlamps and h4 bulbs at 80/100 watts....and cosmetically changed a few things...put on a zr-1 rear end...looks amazing...high polished my rims and threw tints on the car...and just put on wilwood brakes...6 piston superlite front calipers, pads, rotors, hoses...the rear's I kept stock calipers, changed the pads, rotors, and hoses...my stereo crapped out, so I got a good deal on a new kenwood deck with direct attachments for my i-pod in my glove box...very clean install...anyway's, wondering if a hot cam is the way to go? or maybe something different? I have alway's gotten great advice from all forum members, so I am very curious what everyone would suggest...I've tried to do some research and have learned that a 219 cam might be the way to go...just not exactly sure what that is or where to order a good one??thank you all in advance...Brian

Hot cam is proven but you need 1.6 rockers to get the adv lift.
Any new cam is going to require new springs to support the extra lift.
List price on a new LPE 219 is $340
Similar spec TPIS cams are $375

Have had good success with ZZ4 cam (ZZ4 is crate version of L98 with better cam ) which is available as new take out from crate engines under $140.
The correct springs (ZZ4/LT4 ) also available as new takeouts cheap.
Obviously not as big as above cams but worthwhile upgrade at a good price

You have no mods that warrant a cam change, especially not the hotcam. Throw away the spacer plate as well, its crap.

To pick a cam, you must have a set plan for the future. You need to line out whether you want to really change the intake or keep the stock look, you must decide what you want to do with the heads, and above all you need either an ET or HP goal.

Only after you have a rough plan could I recommend anything, you cant just throw something in there.

However if you are still set on changing the cam and not doing any other modifications, then I would suggest somethig like Comp Cams#CCA-07-304-8.

well, I was looking to increase horses...wanted to do the cam since I was already at this part of the motor...wondering what else I can do at a reasonable cost...don't want to get carried away...this car is for street use...it's just too slow right now...would love for the car to be in the 350 hp range (close to 400 hp would be ideal, 350 would suffice)...realize that usually takes a SR, cam, I believe a lil' head work, and headers...can I just go with some head work and a new cam with roller rockers for now?...would love to port and polish cylinder heads, plenum, and injector housing and add the hot cam...but, I am not sure what that would cost?...really not sure what to do...I know the cam will change the sound of the car and might wake it up a lil'...I've heard that a cam, and some head work can add 50-60 hp...my major dilemma concerns the fact that I can pick up an entire new motor for a lil' over 3 grand...don't want to put more money into this one then is warranted...however, I would machine a few parts if that is a better option...also, I would do this in stages...what do you guys suggest?

ok...I was thinking of another option...wondering what everyone thinks??...since my engine is stock, if I just replace my lifters...what does everyone feel about installing a supercharger..procharger is what I was thinking...seems like a good unit..just not sure what one would cost?..or how much horsepower could I expect??

Hotcam can wake up a motor, if the intake can feed the cam with air at higher rpm, yours cant.

If you want 350 or so, then an Accel 211 with some head porting would be the best immediate expense. Then add a larger base, AS&M runners, and a ported plenum as money comes. I dont like going with forced induction if the motor isnt built to take it.

But if you change the cam, you have to redo the chip sooner rather than later.
