383 Cross-Fire?
Anyone do it? Did you have to change injectors?
A friend is contemplating going to more cubic inches (as in 406) and wants to know if he'd have to buy new injectors. Any advice you can give will be appreciated.
I would think that you would want to replace the intake with the x-ram. I use it on mine and like it but it is costly. I have heard in the past of someone changing the injectors and they used injectors from a pickup truck.I don't know all the details but do know I read about it here at CF .

Build it all for low rpm torque. As much trouble as the Crossfire manifold has getting air to 350 cubic inches, 383 or 406 CID will only compound the problem. Ben73 has a quick 383 Crossfire, that I believe has had extensive fuel supply mods. Tom400CFI, now mostly on the C6 forum, once had a Crossfire equipped Firebird that he installed a worn out truck 400 into. I think he had added a cam and headers. Tom's 400 only had an adjustable, vacuum referenced fuel pressure regulator to add fuel. For gasoline, the fuel pressure can be easily boosted, 454 TB injectors can be substituted, or the ECM and electronics can be totally revamped. At times like this, I'm glad mine is all stock.
I never did a 383 in mine but did at one time have Edelbrock heads, a nice roller cam and 10.1:1 compression and nitrous. I used an x-ram intake, honed the throttle bodies out to 2 inches and put in caprice "cop car" 68lbs injectors from Turbocity. Also you will have to convert the ECU to a 7747 from a truck. Very easy and low cost to do. Just make or buy a pigtail adapter. Also you can modify the factory fuel pressure regulator to be adjustable. Raise the fuel pressure to about 14psi and put an LT1 fuel pump in the tank. Should run pretty well. To be honest a motor like that will out run any similar tpi setup with the exception of a superam.

Very innovative, I respect that. I'd like to see a few more of these little neglected step-children built up around here.

I contacted Turbo City, about my crossfire, and a women answered the phone and didn't know what I was talking about, and said we mostly just deal with turbos. I phoned just after reading an article on a crossfire buildup done by turbo city. Some businesses should educate there employees on what is going on in the company. Same thing happened when I phoned grimes automotive.
