Default Rear of my '90 seems to swing sideways slightly

Even on light acceleration the rear seems to lurch sideways slightly, then snaps back when I let off the gas. The tires don't slide, just the body moves. It feels like fishtailing but the tires don't break loose. At first I thought I had a low tire but the pressure is correct. There is no noise involved. All the U joints are snug. I get some slop on one side while rocking the wheel top to bottom with the car jacked up. I can't locate any loose suspension components. The bushings look okay.

Could the differential cause this? Anyone familiar with this behavior? Any suggestions? It has 130K miles.

Thanks

Bill

Check the C-beam bolts.

Not necessarliy the C-beam bolts.

After chasing this behavoir for the past two years I'm convinced it's an alignment issue. Happens during both accelleration and decelleration.

Maybe someday......

Mine did the exact same thing and it turned out to be the batwing bushings. I put a set of polys in there and wow what a difference!

The slop may be wheel bearings, I'd also check all of the suspension bushings.

Mine did that too.
90% of it was a shot tie rod.

Same answer I got at a workshop in Carlisle on Saturday. Mine kicks hard to the right when I hit the throttle, it even kicks aginst the tie-downs when it's run on the dyno.

The answer is the toe-link in the rear has worn tie rod ends. If it kicks left at throttle on and right at throttle lift, then it's the toe-link worn allowing the rear wheels to steer.

I'm about to price the part from VB&P.

When my rear toe rod assy came completely loose from the diff, this is exactly how the car acted. Check those rear toe rods.

Double check the u-joints too. I had similar symptons when the joint that is tucked inside the knuckle (outboard joint of the axel shaft) broke.
