Default check engine light

I a new to corvette ownership. I sometimes get a check engine light, but it is not all the times. So can I use the paper clip trick on this year and if so which pins do I jump. Also does anybody have site that explains the codes and all about them. THANKS

It would be helpful if you included vehicle information in your post or signature. You should also try a search first to find the answers to common questions such as this.

Your profile says you have a 94. On the 94 connect pins 5 and 12 on the ALDL connector to retrieve codes.

This procedure and the descriptions of the various codes are in the factory service manuals. You can get a new set from helminc.com. You can also sometimes find them used on this site or on ebay.

I had a similar situation this spring...car would run sometines for a while and then would trigger the check engine light (or service soon). Mine was a bad oxygen sensor. The code should identify where your problem is. let me know if it is the sensor when you do find out. Thanks

Default codes

a GM product is a GM product.
If you can't find a corvette manual, all the codes are the same.
a buick or camaro or oldsmobile book at checker has the codes as long as it's a tuned port fuel injected engine with a mas air flow sensor or a map sensor.
the computers are all the same, codes are the same, just the memcals are the programming differences.
BUT
theres enough differences, you really need a book for your car, but if none available, use the others to point you in the right direction while you wait for your book to come in the mail
by the way, I had an intermittant fuel injector that sometimes stuck closed or failed to close depending on the throttle position. it ended up working ok, but leaking when I shut off the engine the check engine light would go on, then go away for a while
