some time back, a problem surfaced with lt-1 intakes converted to use the L98 distributor (these are fairly common locally on sbc-1's in cars and even more in 4x4's that use a transplant lt-1 engine assy from a caprice to get great power, with a ''big'' HEI to avoid opti and ecm pains )...the distr hold-down bolts were ''stripping out'', possibly due to over-tightening to stop the distrib from ''walking'' and retarding timing or possibly due to insufficient metal thickness of the lt-1 manifold in the area where the new distrib hole is made, leading to flex in that area.
the cure, devised by my local machine shop, is a ''wedge plate'' that reinforces the manifold, sets the distrib at correct height and 5* mount angle, and provides three distrib mount holes at the height for proper clamping action...using 2 dist clamps is recommended. ''A'' is the oem hold-down location, and directly opposite is a new hold-down point; the dark bolt head is the third point...''B'' is the plate mount screws that thread into the manifold...''C'' is a plate mount screw that threads into the manifold and has a nut/washer underneath
if there is interest, a few of these plates MAY be available, with dimensions for plate location on the lt1 manifold (the machine shop levels this area on a milling machine prior to plate installation but careful hand file work would do)
