Hi All
I was looking for a blowen fuse in the fuse panel while my 89 Vette was running. After pulling out and replacing several fuses I noticed that the Main Instrument Cluster was not lit up. Fuses are all good so I disconnected the battery, thinking it might reset itself. (not). The display area is flickering on and off and nothing is showing up.... tach, spedo, fuel...?
Any ideas?
Thanks Barry
Do a "search" of the archives and recent topics. There has been a ton of info and some really good links to info, in the past. Here is a link to info from my 86 manual....... http://members.shaw.ca/agent86/Instr...%20Cluster.pdf
The cluster has 2 circuit boards that plug together with a single row of pins on the front board to a socket on the rear board. The end pin closest to the center of the circuit board carries the lamp current that backlights the LCD's and this current through an age relaxed spring on the socket causes enough heat to unsolder the pin causing intermittent lighting or no lighting. Resoldering the pin will not cure this problem. I solved this problem about 6 years ago by soldering a small insulated piece of hookup wire from the pin to the socket and have had no trouble since and I drive my 87 everyday.
I took my car in for a safty and it needs a seat belt (drivers side) and it will not pass unless the dash is working. I'll take a look at the pin on the back when I get the car home.
Thanks
