What is the name of the switch that's directly on the back of the Hose Manifold bolted to the back of the compressor. Has 2 wires.I think it's the Hi-Pressure cut off sw.?
It's an 84'
The high pressure switch is the one on the high pressure hose going from the compressor to the condensor (near radiator) to the evaporator(behnd firewall). It is the one closest to the compressor. The low pressure switch is the one connected between the accumulator (silver can) and the evaporator. These two switches control the ac engage clutch. There is a 3rd switch that is actually mounted to the back of the compressor that is held in with a snap ring that turns on the radiator fan when the ac engages and builds up pressure. Be carefull with that one. They are no longer carried anywhere except some aftermarket junk from a company in Texas that seems to put the wrong switches in the wrong boxes. Two times they sent me a normally closed switch that caused my fan to run continuously until I got one that was normally open. The first 2 had gray connectors, the 3rd had a purple one but now my fan does not come on when the ac is turned on. Replacements come with a 2 wire plug that you ground, the old one was a single wire that grounded through case. I cracked mine swapping it over to a new compressor so if anyone has to do that on an 84 be carefull. It was also the only year for that particular switch.
this one has about a 1/8" npt. connection,2 wires and bolts directly to the back of the hose manifold on the back of the compressor.Breaks contact upon extrmely high pressure.Anyone know where I can buy one?

Thanx

Apparently I didn't read the first post carefully enough. I started out looking to see if I had a switch in the location you described. After two trips to the car, pulling wire connector plugs, checking wire colors, and with the help of my whole car wiring schematic, I determined that device you are asking about is the high pressure cut off switch. Now that I reread your opening post, again, I see that is what you thought is was, all along. Part number 3041338.
