First the clutch gave out(i dont know why it worked fine when i test drove it) then the engine got a knoking(which wasent there when i purchased it) so i gonna rebuild it and only have about 1400 (im only 18 and purchased the car myself) and wanted to know the best way i could get power on my budget,i was thinking of a master rebuild kit. the car is a 1986 vette only paid 5000 and has 60000 miles. things ive done, gutted 1 of three converters and set my radiator fan to a switch. please help broke teen

You will need to let us know how much of the work you can do yourself, and a particular goal short-term.

if you need your engine rebuilt and you have only $1400, you might be able to do it, if you're 100% confident you'll be successful doing it all yourself.

then that leaves nothing for extra power, which seems to be your question to begin with. coated headers about $650 for L98, that will get you started down the right path.
