I have an early 1986 Vette, maybe #1727 in the production line. The motor has cast iron heads and the early type roof. At what point did the production change over to later modifications? Did all happen at once or was it done gradually. I am especially interested in whether I have a one piece or two piece rear seal because I want to switch to a ZF-6 from a 4+3 and heard that some 1986 vettes had two piece rear seals? If that is the case, where can I get a dual mass flywheel to fit the early style crank?
Re: Differences between early and late 1986 Vettes (wkitman)
All 85's are 2 pc. seal, and All 86's are 1 pc. seal.
For those that have 2 pc seal cranks, and are swapping 4+3 to ZF, and want to avoid the neutral rattle in the trans, Centerforce Flywheel #700105 is a good choice as it's heavy enough to eliminate the rattle.
Be aware this is not a dual-mass flywheel.
Good Luck,
Joe

I think the term early or late model depends on what item you are talking about. My 86 #22321 is a late model with Alum. heads but a early model with the old style roof panel.
Re: Differences between early and late 1986 Vettes (Mr. G.)
I've got an early iron head '86, but I also have the C68 electronic A/C which was an '86 mid year addition, so they didn't all happen at the same time....my production was #13987 that year....
