Hi everybody!
I'm planning of buying a C4 and I have this question:
Will Edelbrock Victor Jr. and a carburetor fit under the hood? What about filter size?
Why would you "plan" to buy a C4 and then remove the EFI system? Are you going to build a drag car or something? Have you thought about all that might be involved in that? The EFI system works well and offers better driveability than a carb, not to say a carb can't be tuned well.

No, that intake will not fit. In terms of edelbrock intakes, most of us that have made the conversion are using the Performer Intake manifold. This will JUST fit under the hood with a Holley Carb and 3 inch tall air filter.
I've heard of some guys using the Torquer Manifold as well, but I have no experience with that one.

I beg to differ...
I am running the Victor Jr #2975 intake with a 1/8" plate under a Barry Grant 650. the air cleaner is a 1 1/4" drop base with an Accel 14 x 2.25 soon to be replaced by a Summit racing 14 x 2 K&N style filter with an X-Stream flo filtered top.
the tightest clearnace is at the front edge of the air filter with (as best as i can tell using the ply dough ball trick) 1/4" clearance under the factory hood
Someday, if $$$ allows, I would like to go with a high rise hood but for know this is getting it done!
SilverDove, PM me with any questions!

Awesome looking conversion! I stand corrected. Does that thing get enough air? I ran a 2 inch filter and it performs much better with a 3 inch.

Beautiful car!
I am sure it would run better with the 3" filter. No doubt!
I know it is not the optimum set-up. I should really have more air into that thing but I am working up a fresh air intake idea that might solve the problem.
Rich has done the conversion also and can give TONS of advice and input on getting air in, keeping water cool and putting the power down!
Glad to see your setup! I'd done some research and picked the same manifold with a 800 BG to play with when I get tired of the EFI. How much clearance from the air cleaner mounting neck on the carb to the hood?

I have about a quarter inch at the front edge of the aircleaner and about 5/8" on top of the aircleaner stud. i have never measured from the top of the carb. i will do that tonight and post.
Something sticks in my head about 1 7/8" front the top of the fuel level adjustment screw to the bottom of the hood, but I will get out the playdoh and check it!
Thanks Padrummer1, very clean install I am going for it
Are you going to use a drop base filter? How about this:
I dont think that would work. you have to find out the net height from the carb mounting flange. It might work, put I have a feeling the filters may come up just a bit too far.
The nice thing about that design is the you have more clearance to the side of the carb than to the front, due to the sloping hood line. granted, its a fraction gained, but everything helps!
What I am planning on doing very soon is to get a carb hat from Procharger. They make a low profile hat that can be mounted to face in any direction for more clearance. It has a 3" opening and can be piped to a remote air filter or even to the factory location
There is a very good article on airflow requirements in this months Chevy High Performance Magazine in the Performance Q & A section. I highly recommend picking it up!
Guy converted an IROC to carb and had questions about feeding enogh air to it. Very informative!
Thanks for checking that out, I'm hoping to have enough room to put a 1" HVH tapered spacer under the carb if I have clearance. Since it's a race application I don't have to run an aircleaner but I would like the aircleaner base on there.
